Best field service software for small business in 2026: the buyer's shortlist

We make ServicePro, and we still ranked ServiceM8 first. It's the best field service software for small business on price: $79 a month covers unlimited users and 150 jobs. ServicePro comes second, and it's the pick if your calendar has gaps, because its free plan includes a website, Google review requests and your Google Business Profile. Below are seven apps scored on five published tests, with every price checked on October 21, 2026.

Key takeaways

  • ServiceM8 scored highest, 8 out of 10. It charges by jobs instead of by people, so three people doing 100 jobs a month pay $79. Its free plan covers one user and 30 jobs.

  • ServicePro scored highest on getting new customers. Its free plan is the only one here with a website, Google review requests and Google Business Profile tools together. It lost points for having no QuickBooks sync, no route planning and no iPhone ratings yet.

  • Jobber has the best app, but texting costs extra. It's rated 4.81 from 21,315 iPhone ratings. Two-way texting starts on the Grow plan at $199 a month for one user.

  • The price for three people runs from $60 to $199.99 a month. Kickserv is cheapest and QuoteIQ costs the most among the published prices. Workiz and ServiceTitan make you call sales.

  • Most field service apps don't help you get found. They run the jobs you already have. If the calendar is the problem, compare the Getting customers column first.

What field service software actually is (and what it is not)

Field service software runs the part of a home service business that happens after a customer says yes. It books the job, puts it on the calendar, tells the crew where to go, and turns the finished work into an invoice the customer can pay by card. The better apps add online booking, texts to the customer, recurring visits, and a sync to QuickBooks so your books stay current.

It is not a CRM in the sales sense. A CRM tracks conversations with people who haven't bought yet; field service software tracks jobs. It is also not a lead source. None of these apps send you customers the way Angi or Thumbtack do, and most of them do nothing to help new customers find you on Google.

That gap matters more for a small business than a big one. A ten-truck HVAC company has a marketing budget and an office manager. A two-person cleaning or lawn care business has the owner, a phone, and whatever the software does for them. So this list scores two things: how well each app runs the work you already have, and how much it helps you get the next customer. If you're not sure people can find you yet, read why a business doesn't show up on Google before you pick anything.

This list leaves out ServiceTitan. It prices per technician, publishes no prices, and its field app is rated 3.5 from 5,328 iPhone ratings. It is built for contractors with dispatchers and an office, not for a crew of one to five.

How we ranked these field service apps

We scored each app out of 10 on five tests, two points each, picked for a home service business of one to five people. Every number comes from the vendor's own pricing page and its App Store listing, checked on October 21, 2026. We didn't run a trial account for every product, so the scores reflect what each company publishes, and we mark where a page leaves something out.

  1. Price for a three-person crew.

The cheapest published plan, on monthly billing, that covers three people doing 100 jobs a month. $80 or less scores 2, up to $130 scores 1, and more or unpublished scores 0.

  2. Free plan.

A plan you can use for free with no end date scores 2. A free trial scores 1.

  3. iPhone app rating.

The main app's rating on the US App Store. 4.7 or higher from at least 1,000 ratings scores 2, 4.5 or higher scores 1, and below that or no ratings scores 0.

  4. Running the work.

How many of five office tools the cheapest plan includes: online booking, two-way texting, card payments, QuickBooks Online sync and route planning. Four or five scores 2, two or three scores 1.

  5. Getting customers.

How many of three ways to win customers the cheapest plan includes: a website, automated Google review requests and Google Business Profile tools. All three scores 2, one or two scores 1.

Ties go to the lower price for three people. We left out apps built for large contractors, like ServiceTitan, and apps that only do scheduling or time tracking.

The best field service software in 2026

Seven apps, ranked by their score out of 10. Each write-up gives the published price, the iPhone rating, what the cheapest plan includes, and where it falls short. Every number was checked on the vendor's own pages on October 21, 2026, and each entry ends with who should pick it.

1. ServiceM8, best for the lowest price for a small crew

ServiceM8 scored highest on our five tests because it prices by jobs, not by people. The free plan covers one user and 30 jobs a month. Paid plans add unlimited users: Starter is $29 a month for 50 jobs, Growing is $79 for 150, Premium is $149 for 500, and Premium Plus is $349 for 1,500 or more (ServiceM8 pricing, checked October 21, 2026). For our test business of three people and 100 jobs a month, that's $79, the second-lowest price on this list.

Every plan, the free one included, lists online booking, two-way texting, card payments, QuickBooks Online and Xero sync, and customer feedback requests after the job. Route planning is an add-on, the website costs extra, and texts on the free plan cost 10 cents each. The free plan also gives you extra jobs when you take card payments through the app.

The iPhone app is rated 4.55 from 849 ratings. ServiceM8 started in Darwin, Australia, in 2010, and says its users have run more than $22 billion in jobs through it. It's built for, in its words, "sole traders up to 20 staff".

Where it falls short: reviewers on G2 report bugs and slow support, and it does nothing for your Google Business Profile. The job caps are hard limits, so a busy month on a cheap plan means upgrading mid-season.

Best suited for: Solo owners and small crews who mostly need scheduling, invoicing and card payments at the lowest price. Skip it if a website and Google reviews are what you're missing, or if you do more than 30 jobs a month and want to stay free.

2. ServicePro, best for getting new customers, not just running jobs

We make ServicePro, so read this one with that in mind. We scored it with the same rules as everyone else, and it lost points where it should.

The free plan runs the work: jobs, a schedule, invoices and card payments for you and one other person, with no limit on jobs. It also includes the part most of this list leaves out: a website and booking page built from your Google Business Profile in about five minutes, your Google reviews in one place, and automatic review requests after the job (5 a month on Free). Sam, an AI office manager you text to book jobs and send invoices, comes with the free plan. There are no per-lead fees on either plan.

Pro is $99 a month, billed monthly with no contract (ServicePro pricing). It covers up to 10 people and adds pages for up to 25 towns you serve, Google Maps rank tracking for 25 searches, 100 review requests a month, a local number for calls and texts that rings your cell, and posts made for you on Google, Facebook and Instagram.

Where it falls short: there's no QuickBooks sync and no route planning. Two-way texting with customers needs Pro. The iPhone app launched on September 23, 2026 and has no ratings yet, so you can't check other owners' experience the way you can with Jobber's 21,315.

ServicePro was founded in 2024 by Tim Wheeler, who ran a home cleaning business, and Daniel Holliday, an engineer formerly at Microsoft and Twilio. It's free on iPhone and Android.

Best suited for: Owner-operators with one to ten people whose calendar has gaps and who don't have a website they're proud of. If you send hundreds of invoices through QuickBooks or plan long routes every morning, pair it with one of the apps below or pick ServiceM8 or Jobber instead.

3. Jobber, best for the most polished app for a growing crew

Jobber has the best-rated app on this list: 4.81 from 21,315 iPhone ratings. It was founded in 2011 by Sam Pillar and Forrest Zeisler in Edmonton, Alberta, and says more than 400,000 service pros use it (Jobber).

Pricing on monthly billing, checked October 21, 2026 (Jobber pricing): Core is $49 a month for one user, and you can add users for $29 each. Connect is $139 for one user or $199 for five, Grow is $199 for one or $299 for five, and Plus starts at $499 for five. Annual billing is cheaper, but the first-year rate is a promotion that rises in year two. There's a 14-day free trial and no free plan. Card payments are 2.9% plus 30 cents, and 2.7% plus 30 cents with Tap to Pay.

For our test business of three people, Core with two added users is $107 a month. That plan includes online booking, card payments and a basic website. QuickBooks Online sync starts on Connect, two-way texting starts on Grow, and review requests need the separate Reviews add-on.

Where it falls short: the features most small crews want are spread across plans, so the price climbs fast once you need texting. Reviewers also mention a learning curve during setup. Jobber's website is a starting point, not the location pages and Google profile work that get you found.

We've compared it with Housecall Pro plan by plan in Jobber vs Housecall Pro.

Best suited for: Crews of three to fifteen who live in the app all day and want the best-reviewed mobile experience. Budget for Grow if you want two-way texting, and add something else for your website traffic and Google reviews.

4. QuoteIQ, best for Google review automation on a budget

QuoteIQ is popular with pressure washing businesses, and its standout is a Google review tool it calls Review Multiplier, included on every plan. It was co-founded by Mike Vidan II and Justin Rogers, is based in Savannah, Georgia, and says it has more than 40,000 users (QuoteIQ press page).

Pricing, checked October 21, 2026 (QuoteIQ pricing): Essentials is $29.99 a month for one user, Beginner is $99.99 for two, Pro is $199.99 for four, Elite is $299.99 for ten, and Max is $699.99 for twenty. Extra users are $25 a month, and paying yearly costs ten months' price. Prices went up in 2026, so older reviews quote lower numbers. The 14-day trial asks for a card.

The iPhone app is rated 4.72 from 3,419 ratings, second only to Jobber here. The $29.99 plan includes online booking, review requests and card payments through Stripe. In-app calling and texting and QuickBooks sync start on Pro, route planning starts on Elite, and the website builder comes with Max or as a paid add-on.

For our test business of three people, Pro at $199.99 is the cheapest plan that includes everyone, which is why it lost points on price. Reviewers on G2 mention bugs after updates and features held back for higher plans.

Best suited for: Pressure washing and other outdoor cleaning businesses where reviews bring the next job. Look elsewhere if you need QuickBooks or texting on a small budget, since both start on the $199.99 plan.

5. Housecall Pro, best for residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops

Housecall Pro has the most iPhone ratings of any app here: 4.65 from 31,081. Founded in 2013, it says it serves more than 40,000 home service businesses (Housecall Pro), and it's a common pick for residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies.

Pricing, checked October 21, 2026 (Housecall Pro pricing): Basic is $79 a month on monthly billing for one user ($59 billed yearly), Essentials is $189 for up to five users ($149 yearly), and Max is $329 for up to eight ($299 yearly). Extra users on Max are $35 a month. There's a 14-day trial with Max features and no free plan. Card payments are "as low as 2.59%", the lowest published card rate on this list, and bank payments are 1%.

The Basic plan includes online booking and card payments, and Housecall Pro includes review management. QuickBooks sync and basic routing start on Essentials, full route planning is on Max, and the website is an add-on. For our test business of three people, Essentials at $189 is the cheapest plan that fits, which is what cost it points on price.

Where it falls short: G2 reviewers point to the mobile app, thin reporting and the cost of extra users. If you take a lot of card payments, though, the lower card rate can make up the difference: on $20,000 a month in card payments, 2.59% instead of 2.9% saves about $62 a month.

Best suited for: Residential trades with a handful of techs who take a lot of card payments, where a lower card rate pays for the plan. A solo owner who mainly needs to be found on Google will pay more here than the job requires.

6. Kickserv, best for five users on a small budget

Kickserv is the cheapest way on this list to put five people on one account. It was founded by Todd Eccles and launched in 2006 as ServiceSidekick (Kickserv), which makes it the oldest product here.

Pricing, checked October 21, 2026 (Kickserv pricing): Start is $60 a month for five users, Run is $119 for ten, and Scale is $199 for twenty. Paying yearly saves 20%. The free trial is 30 days, the longest here. For our test business of three people, Start at $60 is the lowest price on this list.

The Start plan lists QuickBooks Online sync. Its pricing page doesn't list online booking, two-way texting, card payments, route planning, a website or review requests on that plan, so we couldn't give it points for them. Ask Kickserv before you buy if any of those matter to you.

Where it falls short: the iPhone app is rated 3.77 from 62 ratings, the lowest on this list, and Capterra reviewers describe it as glitchy. Kickserv works best when someone in the office does the scheduling and invoicing on a computer and the crew only checks the app for the next address.

It does nothing for getting found on Google, so a small team would still need a website and a way to ask for reviews.

Best suited for: Small office-based teams who schedule and invoice from a computer and want five seats for $60. Field crews who work from their phones all day should test the app first, since it's the lowest-rated here.

7. Workiz, best for businesses that run on phone calls

Workiz is built for businesses where the phone is the job. Its strength, according to G2 reviewers, is that calls, texts and jobs sit in one system, so a missed call becomes a booked job without switching apps. It's based in San Diego, says more than 120,000 service pros use it (Workiz), and was founded by Idan Kadosh, Erez Marom and Saar Kohanovitch.

Pricing, checked October 21, 2026 (Workiz pricing): Standard, Pro and Ultimate are all "Request pricing". Workiz no longer publishes prices, so you'll need a sales call to get a number, and it scored zero on price for that reason. There's a 7-day free trial with no card required, and no free plan.

The iPhone app is rated 4.58 from 2,192 ratings. The Standard plan includes online booking, card payments and QuickBooks sync. The phone system that makes Workiz worth picking, Genius Phone, is sold separately, and so is its review tool, Reputation Manager. There's no website.

Where it falls short: Capterra reviewers complain about hidden fees, and the add-ons are where the price grows. If you get most of your work by phone and want calls recorded and tied to jobs, ask for a quote with Genius Phone included so you're comparing the real number.

Best suited for: Locksmiths, garage door, appliance and other call-driven trades that want phone, texting and jobs in one system and are fine getting a custom quote. Owners who want to compare prices before talking to sales should start with the others.

What results look like

Field service software keeps the jobs you have organized. The results our customers notice come from the other half: more people finding them. Two examples, shared without names until the owners say yes.

  • A delivery and moving truck company in Southern California. Before ServicePro, the owner told us, they averaged about one website inquiry a month. After the new site went up, our records show 5 inquiries in July, 6 in August, and 7 in September through the 24th. The owner says the phone rings more too.
  • An appliance repair shop in Rhode Island. Its website went from three pages to 55: service pages, pages for a service in a specific town, and a page for each of the 19 towns it serves. The owner says the phone rings more than last year, and the shop is training a new technician to keep up. The shop still runs its jobs in FieldPulse and uses ServicePro for its website, Google profile and reviews.

Neither result came from the scheduling app. Both came from being easier to find on Google, which is the part most field service software leaves to you. You can check where your business shows up on Google for free before you change anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best field service software for a small business?

ServiceM8 scored highest on our five tests: $79 a month for unlimited users and 150 jobs, a free plan for one user, and booking, texting, card payments and QuickBooks on every plan. If your bigger problem is getting customers, ServicePro scored highest on that test, with a website, review requests and Google Business Profile tools on its free plan.

How much does field service software cost for a small business?

For three people and 100 jobs a month on monthly billing, published prices in October 2026 run from $60 (Kickserv) to $199.99 (QuoteIQ). ServiceM8 is $79, ServicePro is $99, Jobber is $107 and Housecall Pro is $189. Workiz and ServiceTitan don't publish prices.

What is the best free field service software?

Two on this list have a real free plan. ServiceM8 Free covers one user and 30 jobs a month. ServicePro Free covers two people with no job limit, and includes a website, booking page and review requests.

What is the difference between field service software and a CRM?

Field service software schedules jobs, sends crews out and invoices the work. A CRM tracks sales conversations with people who haven't bought yet. Most small home service businesses need the first, and the customer list inside it covers what they'd use a CRM for.

How does field service software help you get new customers?

Most of it doesn't: it manages customers you already have. Jobber's Core plan includes a basic website, and QuoteIQ and Housecall Pro help with reviews. ServicePro is the only one here whose free plan includes a website, Google review requests and Google Business Profile tools together.

What about ServiceTitan for a small business?

ServiceTitan prices per technician and doesn't publish prices, and its field app is rated 3.5 from 5,328 iPhone ratings. It's built for larger contractors with dispatchers and an office. A crew of one to five will pay for features it won't use.

How do I use ServicePro with the field service app I already have?

Keep your jobs in the app you use now and add ServicePro for your website, Google profile and reviews. The appliance repair shop in our results does this with FieldPulse. The free plan needs no card, so you can try it without moving anything.

Try ServicePro for free (no credit card required)

If your schedule has gaps, the problem usually isn't the calendar app. It's that not enough people find you on Google. ServicePro's free plan gives you jobs, invoices and card payments, plus a website, a booking page and your Google Business Profile in one place. It takes about five minutes to set up from your phone, with no credit card and no contract. Keep your current field service app if you like it; you can run both.
