The rest of this post is why the minimum changes every number above, and the order to build the channels in.
The number that matters is the minimum, not the lead
A $30 lead that books a $75 single room is a loss after the drive. The same $30 lead that books a whole house at $242 with upholstery added is a good day. Nothing about the lead changed; the minimum did.
So every channel here is judged on one question: does it produce a customer who will pay the minimum? The ones that do are the whole-house searcher in September, the property manager who needs a move-out clean by Friday, and the customer from last year who trusts you. The ones that do not are the coupon-shopper the marketplaces sell, who wanted one room for $25 and will book whichever of five cleaners texts first. Our carpet cleaning pricing guide covers the minimum and the add-ons; this post is the leads.
Why carpet cleaning is its own animal
The coupon set the customer's price. Decades of $99 mailers mean the searcher arrives with a number in mind that is below your minimum. A lead that has not seen your price before they call is a lead you will lose on price, which is why the profile and the page carry the three-rooms framing before any ad runs.
September is a third of the year. "Carpet cleaning near me" runs 110,000 searches a month and 165,000 in September. The channels below are switched on in August and mostly off in November; a lead bought in February is a lead bought at the wrong time.
The customer comes back if asked. Carpet is cleaned annually. A text eleven months after the job is a lead that costs nothing and closes at the highest rate of anything on this list, and it is the channel most new operators forget to build.
Marketplaces: Thumbtack and Angi at carpet prices
Thumbtack. Pipeline On's May 2026 analysis puts most home-service leads at $25 to $75, with every responder paying and 78% of homeowners choosing the first contractor to reply. At a $182 job, a $40 lead that closes one in five is $200 per booked job, for a customer who wanted the $99 price and will shop the platform next year.
Angi. LeadTruffle's 2026 guide (LeadTruffle sells lead-qualification software) puts most contractors at $15 to $85 a lead, shared with three to eight, plus about $300 a year and a reported $400 monthly minimum on twelve-month contracts. For a trade whose demand is concentrated in one month, a twelve-month contract is the wrong shape.
Both fill a gap. Neither produces the whole-house customer at the minimum.
Google: Local Services Ads and Search, in the September peak
Local Services Ads. Google lists a "Carpet cleaning services" category. 99 Calls publishes its clients' numbers: for September 2026 the average charged carpet cleaning lead was $41.81, the median $35.89 and the typical range $32.79 to $62.69, from five campaigns over three months. Across home services a February 2026 dataset put the average LSA lead at about $53 with roughly 44% booking; at $42 and 44%, that is about $95 per booked job. It pencils on a whole house and loses on a single room, so set the job types to whole-house and upholstery, and apply in July because verification takes weeks.
Search ads. Clicks cost about $13.28 for "carpet cleaning near me", $10.64 for "upholstery cleaning near me", $8.72 for "rug cleaning near me" and $5.12 for "tile and grout cleaning" (Google Ads averages via DataForSEO, September 2026). Put the minimum in the headline, send each click to the matching surface page, run carpet in September and upholstery in January. Our carpet cleaning advertising guide has the copy.
The owned channels: the street, the manager, the text
The neighbours. A van in a driveway for two hours is seen by every house on the street. A door hanger at about nine cents (1,000 for $93.51) on the ten houses either side, with the neighbour price and a booking QR code, is the cheapest lead in the trade. A yard sign from $10.99 for a week does the same job.
The property manager. Turnover cleans between tenants arrive weekly, on a deadline, at a per-unit price, and never see a coupon. One email with the price and the certificate of insurance to every manager in the area, and one follow-up. A manager with fifty units is a steadier customer than fifty homeowners.
The text. Every customer, eleven months after the job: "It's been a year since we did the living room and the stairs. Same price for a September slot?" This is the highest-closing lead on the list and it costs a text.
The profile and the page. Primary category "Carpet cleaning service", the minimum framed as three rooms in the services list, a page per surface. Our carpet cleaning SEO guide covers the pages and the Google Business Profile guide the setup. Nextdoor is a free business page where "can anyone recommend a carpet cleaner?" is asked every fall.
So what should you do?
July: profile and pages live with the minimum on them; the property-manager email sent; Local Services Ads applied for.
August: hangers and signs ordered; the rebooking text sent to last year's customers; the Search ad written with the minimum in the headline.
September: ads on for whole-house work; every job gets the hangers on the neighbours, the sign, and a review request by text before the fans are off.
January: the ad switches to upholstery.
Every job: the eleven-month reminder set on the day. By the end of September you know cost per booked job for every channel, and the answer is almost always that the text and the manager beat everything you paid for. The carpet cleaning start guide covers the machine and the costs if you are still deciding.
Where ServicePro fits
ServicePro is the getting-found half of this post as software: the profile, the page per surface with the minimum on it, and the booking page a door hanger opens. The free plan builds it from your Google Business Profile in about five minutes, on your own domain, with up to five service pages, an inbox for every call and message, and five review requests a month, with no per-lead fees at any volume.
Pro is $99 a month, no contract, and adds Google Map rank tracking for "carpet cleaning near me" across every town the van drives to, up to 25 location pages, a tracked phone number with two-way texting so the neighbour can book by text, 100 automatic review requests a month with AI-drafted replies, and posts written and published for you to your Google Business Profile and to Facebook and Instagram.
The carpet cleaning page shows what the site and the rank tracking look like for this trade, and own your leads is the longer argument.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do carpet cleaning leads cost in 2026?
About $41.81 on average on Google Local Services Ads by 99 Calls' September 2026 client data, median $35.89, typical range $32.79 to $62.69; $25 to $75 on Thumbtack where every responder pays; $15 to $85 on Angi shared with three to eight companies; and $5.12 to $13.28 a click on Google Search. The cheapest lead is a text to last year's customer.
Are Local Services Ads worth it for carpet cleaning?
For whole-house jobs in the September peak, yes: at about $42 a lead and a 44% book rate that is roughly $95 per booked job against a $182 average, and the call comes only to you. For single rooms it loses money after the drive. Set the job types to whole-house and upholstery, and apply in July.
How do I get carpet cleaning customers without coupons?
Put the minimum, framed as three rooms for $125, on the profile and every page so the customer sees your price before the coupon's. Email property managers a per-unit turnover price. Hang a door hanger at about nine cents on the neighbours of every job. Text every customer eleven months after the job. None of those competes with $99.
Is Thumbtack worth it for carpet cleaners?
To fill a gap in September, maybe. Pipeline On's 2026 analysis puts most home-service leads at $25 to $75 with every responder paying and 78% of homeowners choosing the first reply, and the customer it produces wanted one room at the coupon price. At a $182 job and a one-in-five close it is about $200 per booked job for a one-time customer.
When should I advertise carpet cleaning?
August through October, for the September peak when "carpet cleaning near me" goes from 110,000 searches a month to 165,000, and again in January for upholstery. Local Services Ads verification takes weeks, so apply in July. Almost nothing should run in a February auction against demand that is not there.
What is the best lead source for a new carpet cleaning business?
The property manager. Turnover cleans between tenants arrive weekly, on a deadline, at a per-unit price, and never see a coupon; a manager with fifty units is a steadier customer than fifty homeowners. One email with the price and the certificate of insurance, and one follow-up.
